There were a couple of other more mellow duets I had been thinking of posting first for the next #AprilDuets entry, but I wanted to be kind to Lance and completely scrub Thom Yorke out of his head. If Slayer and Ice-T can’t do it, I don’t know what can.

I’ve always assumed that the Judgment Night movie was made strictly to justify creating the soundtrack. I mean, the concept for the album is fantastic – pair alternative/rock/grunge acts with rap/hip hop acts. Seriously, has this been done before or since for an entire album? (Probably, but I like to imagine it hasn’t). I feel like whoever came up with the idea pitched it, but then the person on the other side of the table was like “Sure, sounds great, but what’s it for?” “Errr…a movie?” Because let’s be honest, the movie was horrible. Fine, I only saw it once and don’t really remember it, but that’s always been my memory of it. But man, the soundtrack…

J Mascis and Del the Funky Homosapien!

Teenage Fanclub and De La Soul!

Sonic Youth and Cypress Hill!

Helmet and House of Pain!

Slayer and Ice-T

etc.

Not all of them are winners, but that’s more my dislike of one or both of the bands in the pairing. I used to have the full album, but now in my library I’ve only got 4 of the songs, which probably means I was smart and got rid of all the ones I didn’t like. Looking at the full list again really makes me want to give them all another shot though. Either way, multiple choices for this month’s theme, but the month is drawing to a close, so I picked one of my favorites. This song is just hardcore awesomeness. Body Count is already firm proof that Ice-T can kick ass in a hardcore band, but then you throw in Slayer (who I’ve never been into but can’t deny their greatness here) and this song goes to 11.

Turn up your volume, and look for something to kick or punch (it’s also a great workout song).

About Chris

Chris is a digital producer based in Toronto, but don't worry, he's American. He enjoys karaoke and video games that are old enough to cost under $20. He used to be a master of the pit and live shows but can hardly keep up with anything new nowadays, so he usually goes to his happy place of media from his wayward youth. Chris is still trying to figure out what to be when he grows up.
