I posted another Bush karaoke song (“Glycerine“) almost 3 months ago to the day from today. How the hell have we been doing this blog for 3+ months? I won’t rehash my thoughts on Bush, other than to say that if I remember right this was their first single, and what got me into them.
I’ve only actually done this song a handful of times at karaoke. I still like listening to it – it’s got some killer hooks and typical Bush passion – and I enjoy singing it, but I think maybe I have a tough time getting into it since the words don’t make a whole lot of sense (fine, that criticism was a direct rehash of my last Bush post). Or maybe it’s one of those songs that people hear and think “oh yeah, I remember that song” and then go back to ordering their drink. If I’m being honest, though, what really draws me to singing it when I do is that it’s on the short list of songs I do that has at least one long, drawn out, take a deep breath and fill up your lungs and give it your goddamn all and make crowd cheer, damnit moments in it. I’ve got a weakness for those (at least the ones I can hit), what can I say? (Creep and Sister Christian are a couple of others on that list). I might need to do it next time.
