There are a lot of Weezer songs that are summer songs to me. They’re fun, they’re poppy, they make me want to turn them up and sing along and move (it’s tough for me to listen to Weezer at work). A lot of them also have an undercurrent to them that move them beyond a standard pop song.
This song, for example. It’s got all the fun attributes listed above and is such a fun, happy song, but it’s also a bit of a big F You following the standard path, whether that’s a corporate job or corporate life or whatever. This song is all about taking the road less traveled, and coming out ahead because of it. That’s what summer is all about, at least when you’re a kid/teen. Doing dumb stuff. Not caring about a thing in the world. And, even if you don’t realize it, feeling bad for all the poor schlubs who aren’t right there with you.
No official video, but here’s a cheeky fan-made one:
This whole album is Summer. Can’t believe I didn’t pick anything from it.
