I had fully intended on picking a song I regularly sing at karaoke because I’m trying to make it a week without being whiney.  I didn’t wanna get sucked into the black hole that is “Man, I wish they had ____.”  But fuck man, I wish karaoke joints had some Ned’s Atomic Dustbin jams.

What a great little song.  And again, this album is all pretty killer so it might crop back up again on a later list.  What I adore about Ned’s besides the dual bassists and fucking great energy is the vocal range John Penney is rocking.  When I’m in a car, or the shower I can totally nail it… so a drink or two into a karaoke evening and I’ll be all set, right?  Right!

And honestly, any Ned’s song would do… I picked “Kill Your Television” because that’s the track that came up on shuffle today.  But bonus points for pretty simple lyrics I could memorize before any performance.

She said, she said
“You don’t know shit
Because you’ve never been there”
She turned upon him
Took him by the hair
Spun him ’round about
She pushed him out
Laughing as he feel about
Sat down for a drink
In her father’s favorite chair

Kill
Your
Television

I said, “I know
I don’t know shit
Because I’ve never been there”
You turned upon me
Took me by the hair
Spun me all about
Pushed me out
Laughing as I fell about
Sat down for a drink
In your father’s favorite chair

She said

Soap for sore eyes
(I need an intermission)
If looks could kill
(I’d kill your television)

Soap for sore eyes
(I need an intermission)
If looks could kill
(I’d kill your television)

Kill
Your
Television

Soap for sore eyes

  1. I never got into Ned’s. No real reason, just sometimes the hook catches and sometimes it doesn’t. A friend of my high school girlfriend was OBSESSED with them, so that was kind of the most exposure I had. Good choice though, I think you could nail it.
