I haven’t seen this film since it came out, but it was super fucking fun and clever at the time.  It might be a little dated now or might be just old enough to be cool again.  Either way, it introduced me to some music I wouldn’t have otherwise discovered on my own.  The album isn’t consistently good through and through, but there are some choice cuts along the way.

This track from the Canadian band Plumtree inspired the name of the titular character from the comic book and film.  It’s a totally fun track by some girls that you know you’d totally be crushing on back in high school.  Just hoping once, they’d invite you to listen them practice in their dad’s garage.  Sigh…

For me, the real stars of the attraction are the Blood Red Shoes, a guitar and drum duo from England.  I’m a sucker for harmonies in general, but when it’s female/male I’m completely hooked.  It doesn’t hurt that the song rocks  as well.

Here’s a bonus music video by Blood Red Shoes that isn’t on the soundtrack, but is also awesome and full of destruction.

The in-film bands are also fun.  The intro from the film features Sex Bob-omb:

Would I recommend buying the soundtrack?  No.  Watching the film? Probably.  Digging deeper into Plumtree and Blood Red Shoes? Definitely.

  1. I remember you turned me on to It’s Getting Boring By the Sea a few years ago, and hooked me up with some of their other music. I couldn’t get into any of the rest of it (surprising because I also love male/female harmonies), but that remains one seriously killer song.

I probably would have been completely into this soundtrack as a teen, but watching the movie as an adult, I think I just felt too old and out of it for the music.
